Our Vertical Integrated Supply Chain

Tri Marine LogoTri Marine has been our strategic partner for more than 25 years and is the exclusive supplier of the precooked tuna loins processed in our Cermenate plant. Similarly to us, Tri Marine has the objective of preserving fish resources and is committed to protecting the environment, supporting communities and ensuring proper nutrition by offering one of the healthiest proteins in the world.

Guided by shared values and by the same long-term vision in terms of sustainability, we collaborate with Tri Marine in projects of various kinds in both social and sustainability.

In particular, we work together with the implementation of the ISSF conservation measures, with the aim of having in the years to come all the fishing chains capable of meeting the standards set by the MSC certification.

Together we are committed to the development of some important FIPs that will ensure the achievement of the goal of sourcing only from MSC certified fisheries or from Credible and Comprehensive FIPs from 2024 onward.

With support and collaboration with Tri Marine, we have accomplished major milestones and are making progress in key areas of sustainability such as:

Brought the fishery in the Salomon Island to MSC certification standards.

Further improved our traceability system by connecting products to the vessels, allowing consumers to trace the tuna on their plate back to the ocean.

Optimizing the use of FADs on the vessels we source, in accordance to ISSF guidelines.

Our support to scientific research

In 2009, we were among the founders of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), a global, non-profit organization whose members include the most eminent scientists, marine biologists and various NGOs, including WWF International.

We believe that each fishing method has its advantages and areas of improvement. For this reason, to ensure a holistic approach to tuna supply, we source from different fishing methods: Purse Seiners using FADs

Our commitment to marine

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a global, voluntary, and independent body that supports sustainable fishing practices and defines the standards for the responsible procurement of fish resources.

We have been working together with WWF since 2017 to safeguard the health of the oceans and the livelihoods of the communities that depend on them.

We understand the importance in cooperating with public entities to develop new initiatives aiming at protecting our planet. For this reason, since 2014 our brand Rio Mare is partner with the Protected Marine Area of the Aegadian Islands (Italy, Sicily) is Europe’s largest protected marine areas.
